Taylor Swift has faced a major Instagram follower drop, shedding over 144,200 followers since being loudly booed at the Super Bowl, according to data from sports gaming site SportsMillions.
Critics suggest the backlash is tied to Swift’s political views, with conservative fans urging her to stay out of politics. Alexis Winters, a 24-year-old New York Young Republican Club official, believes the social media dip signals a disconnect between Swift and many American voters.
“We are tired of celebrities lecturing us from their ivory towers,” Winters said. “Taylor Swift is the perfect example, and her Instagram losses reflect the frustration of hundreds of thousands of Americans.”
Meanwhile, Swift’s boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has seen an increase of 12,370 followers since the Super Bowl, according to SportsMillions, which tracks social media stats via Social Blade.
This stark contrast has sparked debate among fans. Sara Koger, 32, from Arizona, expressed frustration over the double standard:
“It’s maddening how people celebrate the man dating a successful woman more than the woman herself,” she said.
Swifties for Trump React
Jenna Piwowarczyk, a college student and leader of the ‘Swifties for Trump’ movement, also weighed in. She pointed out that while Kelce was warmly welcomed at Swift’s Eras Tour, the pop star received boos when shown on the Super Bowl Jumbotron.
“The hate towards Taylor is uncalled for and gross,” Piwowarczyk said.
Despite the backlash, Swift remains one of the most successful artists in history, with her Eras Tour being the highest-grossing concert tour of all time.
“Taylor Swift doesn’t rely on social media to thrive,” Koger added. “She isn’t going anywhere—no matter how many followers she loses or how many boos she hears.”
