A 19-year-old man from Adamawa State is accused of killing his girlfriend’s 3-day-old baby. The incident took place in Mubi, a town in northern Adamawa, where the teenage father, Aliyu Yaro, allegedly responded to repeated calls from his girlfriend, Safiya, to take responsibility for their child.

According to police reports, Aliyu visited Safiya’s house at night after she asked him to take the baby. After sending her out on an errand, he took the infant from the home. Aliyu admitted to bringing the baby back to his house, where he fed it sour milk, leading to the child’s death the following day. He then reportedly buried the baby’s body in the Girpata area of Mubi around 9:00 p.m.

Aliyu explained that Safiya had often threatened to harm or abandon the baby if he did not take responsibility for it, which led him to take action. The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered the case to be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution of both Aliyu and Safiya.
