Texas Superfan Matthew McConaughey Supports Packers' New First-Round Pick, Matthew Golden

Matthew McConaughey, the ultimate Texas Longhorns superfan, has shown his full support for the Green Bay Packers’ newest addition, wide receiver Matthew Golden.

Shortly after the Packers selected Golden with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, McConaughey took to X (formerly Twitter), praising the 21-year-old’s skills: “Route, hands, speed,” he wrote. This enthusiastic endorsement came just after Golden was welcomed by the Packers’ faithful, who gave a loud ovation as their team made the first wide receiver pick in the first round since 2002.

Golden, who spent one season with Texas after two seasons at Houston, is ready to bring his talents to Green Bay. The 6-foot wide receiver will hope to make an immediate impact on the Packers’ offense.

McConaughey, an award-winning actor and University of Texas graduate, has been a long-time supporter of his alma mater and its sports teams. His iconic status as the “Minister of Culture” at the Texas basketball arena has earned him fame among Longhorns fans. Additionally, McConaughey expressed his support for Jahdae Barron, a Texas cornerback selected by the Denver Broncos.

The Packers responded playfully to McConaughey’s post with the line: “DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS?” While McConaughey has yet to reply, this interaction may mark the start of an exciting connection between the Green Bay Packers and the Hollywood icon.

Could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between McConaughey and the Packers? Only time will tell!
