U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to impose significant tariffs on all imports from Mexico and Canada, as well as additional tariffs on Chinese goods, once he returns to the White House.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, the social media platform he co-founded, stating that he would sign an executive order on his first day in office to enact these tariffs.
He emphasized that the tariffs would remain in place until issues like the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigration are addressed.
“On January 20th, as one of my first executive actions, I will sign orders to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada, along with ending their ridiculous open border policies,” Trump said.
He further stated that both countries have the power to resolve these issues but have failed to do so. “We demand that they take action, and until they do, they will face serious consequences.”
Additionally, Trump announced that a 10% tariff would be placed on goods from China until the flow of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, is stopped, most of which enter the U.S. through Mexico.
