UCL: How We Achieved a 4-1 Victory Over Manchester City – Ruben Amorim

Departing Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim shared his thoughts on why his team triumphed over Manchester City with a stunning 4-1 scoreline in their UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday.

The victory was led by Viktor Gyokeres, who scored a hat-trick that put Sporting ahead of Pep Guardiola’s team. City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland missed a crucial late penalty when the score was at 3-1, a moment that solidified Sporting’s grip on the game.

Reflecting on the match, Amorim—who is soon to join Manchester United, a rival of Manchester City in the Premier League—attributed the win to a mix of skill and the electric atmosphere at the stadium. “The environment and everything around us really helped us beat Guardiola’s side,” he noted.

Amorim described the experience as fated, saying, “It was written.” He admitted that the first half was particularly challenging, with Sporting riding their luck at times. However, things changed quickly after halftime, with two goals scored in the opening minutes of the second half.

“It was an amazing night, a truly special moment,” Amorim said. “We all deserved this victory. Four years ago, we were in a very different place. Today was incredible.”
