US Lawmakers Urge Biden to Halt Offensive Weapons Transfers to Israel Amid Gaza Conflict

Twenty Democratic lawmakers in the United States have urged President Joe Biden to stop the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel, citing the Israeli government’s failure to meet US demands for increased aid to Gaza.

The request was made in a letter sent to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, led by lawmakers Summer Lee and Greg Casar. The letter calls on the Biden administration to adhere to its own laws, which restrict military aid to countries accused of war crimes or blocking US-backed humanitarian aid.

“We believe that continuing to transfer offensive weapons to the Israeli government only prolongs the suffering of the Palestinian people and undermines our own national security,” the letter stated. “It sends a message that the US selectively enforces its laws, policies, and international law.”

The lawmakers warned that failing to take action would extend Israel’s military actions in Gaza, isolate Israel internationally, and further destabilize the region.
