
Ahead of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council election, 14 candidates have signed a peace pact to ensure a free and fair electoral process. The ceremony took place on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital.
The signing was attended by ACP Coker Shado, representing the Commissioner of Police; former NUJ Chairman Alhaji Soladoye Adewole; and the outgoing Chairman, Ademola Babalola.
The NUJ election is scheduled for December 9, 2025, and the peace accord was deemed necessary to promote decorum, sportsmanship, and an orderly electoral environment.
The union’s executive positions up for election include Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Internal Auditor.
Candidates who signed the peace accord include:
- Adebayo Raji (Correspondents’ Chapel)
- Oladapo Olusola (Federal Ministry of Information)
- Akeem Abas (Correspondents’ Chapel)
- Atilola Abiodun (State Information)
- Adeniji Olamide (State Information)
- Adu Dayo (FRCN)
- Imran Khalid (Oke-Ogun)
- Animashaun Rofiah (NTA)
- Ishola Olamiposi (BCOS)
- Adebayo Abdul Rofih (BCOS)
- Morenikeji Moses (FRCN)
- Oladipo Bosede (NFTV)
- Akinjola Olubode (BCOS)
- Alimi Nurudeen (Nigerian Tribune)
Notably, Nwaoko Samuel of the Nigerian Tribune was absent from the signing.
Chairman of the Credentials Screening Committee, Ismail Fasasi, emphasized the importance of the peace accord, urging all candidates and their supporters to adhere to its principles and allow electorates to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
Fasasi stated:
“Let us work together to create an environment that allows electorates to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.”
The peace pact represents a proactive step by Oyo NUJ stakeholders to foster transparency, fairness, and professional conduct during the upcoming election.
