
A 20-year-old man, Chigbo Umeugokwe, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Umuezeiyi village, Achina, Aguata LGA.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 29, 2025, when the suspect invaded a local shop armed with a gun and axe, abducted the girl, and took her to a nearby bush, where he allegedly committed the assault. He also stole ₦30,000 from the shop.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime. Exhibits recovered included a locally made single-barrel gun, a small axe, and a red polo shirt used as a face mask.
Ikenga said Umeugokwe would be arraigned in court on November 19, 2025, as part of the police’s commitment to ensure justice for the victim and hold offenders accountable.
