Seth Meyers Claps Back at Donald Trump’s ‘Deranged Lunatic’ Comments

Seth Meyers Addresses Trump’s Social Media Attack

During his Nov. 3 monologue on Late Night with Seth Meyers, host Seth Meyers responded to a Truth Social post from former President Donald Trump, who had called him a “deranged lunatic” and “the least talented person to perform live in television history.”

Meyers, 51, joked about the nature of late-night comedy and how Trump’s posts tend to create the narrative that the hosts are obsessed with him:

“That’s what you do to us. You make us talk about what you’re talking about, and then we all sound crazy,” Meyers said.

Trump’s Criticism and the Catapult Controversy

Trump, 79, also claimed it was “probably illegal” for Meyers to be “100% anti-Trump” on his show. During the monologue, Meyers emphasized that the President’s social media tirades were far less important than the real issues, like food assistance for millions of Americans.

“What matters far less is when the president posts about me… calling me a ‘deranged lunatic’ and commenting that I ‘talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers,’” Meyers said.

Meyers humorously countered this claim by showing a series of clips of Trump himself talking about catapults on aircraft carriers, earning loud laughter from the audience:

“But there is one thing I simply have to address… I’m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers! You’re the one who talks endlessly about catapults!”

Comedic Rebuttal on Trump’s Contradictions

Meyers also highlighted the inconsistencies in Trump’s social media behavior, pointing out that Trump had written he watched Late Night with Seth Meyers “for the first time in years,” contradicting an earlier statement from January that he “got stuck watching Marble Mouth Myers for the first time in months.”

“First of all, stuck? I find it hard to believe you let other people decide what to put on. Everything about your vibe screams, ‘I call the clicker.’”

The host also jokingly predicted future posts from Trump about mundane topics like White House bathrooms, poking fun at the former president’s obsessive posting habits.

The Bigger Message

Despite the jokes, Meyers returned to the central point: Trump’s constant focus on trivial topics forces comedians to echo the same topics, making them appear obsessive or “deranged.”

“I say this with sincerity: I don’t want to talk about catapults. I don’t want to talk about bathrooms. And I’m realizing that I’m starting to sound like a deranged lunatic. But that’s what you do to us.”

Late Night with Seth Meyers airs weekdays on NBC.
