Abia Approves 1,150% Increase in NYSC Allowance

The Abia State Government has approved a massive 1,150 per cent increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state.

The move raises the payment from ₦4,000 to a new range of ₦20,000 to ₦50,000, depending on the corps members’ area of deployment.

In a statement issued in Umuahia on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Njoku Ukoha, said the decision reflects the state’s commitment to improving the welfare of young Nigerians contributing to its development through the national service scheme.

According to Ukoha, the new allowance structure introduces a ₦20,000 base pay for all corps members posted to Abia, with those serving in critical sectors such as education, health, and rural development receiving up to ₦50,000 monthly.

He added that Governor Alex Otti’s administration approved the review to motivate corps members and recognise their vital role in community building and social service delivery across the state.

The significant wage adjustment makes Abia one of the most NYSC-friendly states in Nigeria, setting a new standard for youth welfare and state-level support for national service.
