Tinubu Felicitates Emir of Borgu and Reuben Abati on Anniversaries

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated both the Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Muhammed Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, and renowned journalist Dr. Reuben Abati on their respective milestones.

President Tinubu marked the 10th anniversary of the Emir’s ascension to the throne and celebrated Abati on his 60th birthday. In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President joined the government and people of Niger State, the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, and the Borgu Emirate Council in honoring the royal father.

The President, who holds the traditional title of Jagaban Borgu, lauded the 17th Emir for a decade of selfless service, peace-building, and visionary leadership, noting his efforts in fostering unity, civic responsibility, and national cohesion. Tinubu also praised the Emir’s dedication to cultural preservation and his use of experience as a lawyer, entrepreneur, and former secretary of the council to advance the welfare of his people.

“We pray for the Emir’s continued good health, wisdom, and the prosperity of the Borgu Kingdom,” the President said.


Tribute to Reuben Abati at 60

While celebrating Abati, President Tinubu described him as a brilliant public intellectual whose work has enriched Nigeria’s public discourse. In a personal tribute, he commended Abati’s decades of service in journalism, literature, and public service, noting his time as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Dr. Abati’s insightful articles, interventions, and television analyses continue to enlighten and inspire. His patriotism, creativity, and versatility across sectors are noteworthy,” the statement read.

Highlighting Abati’s literary achievements, Tinubu also congratulated him on the presentation of three new books to mark the milestone birthday: Portraits: People, Politics and Society, A Love Letter and Other Stories, and How Goodluck Jonathan Became President.

“I congratulate Dr. Abati, whom I fondly call Rubi Rubi, and join the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the Nigerian Guild of Editors, family, and friends in celebrating this notable writer,” President Tinubu added.

The President concluded his tribute by praying for continued grace and vitality for the veteran journalist.
