Kano School Feeding Programme Gets Boost with ‘Snack for Thought’ Initiative

The Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP), in collaboration with TechnoServe Nigeria and other partners, has launched a pilot initiative called ‘Snack for Thought’ at Magwan Special Primary School in Kano.

The programme provides nutritious breakfast meals to pupils in public schools, complementing the Federal Government’s upcoming lunch feeding scheme, while aiming to improve child nutrition, school attendance, and learning outcomes.

Over 1,800 pupils across three pilot schools—Magwan Science Model Primary School, Race Course Science Model Primary School, and Ganduje Nomadic Primary School—received meals made from whole-grain brown rice, including traditional dishes like Kunu Geda (rice and groundnut drink) and Garau Garau (rice and beans dish).

According to Dr. Princess Aderemi Adebowale, National Programme Manager of RH-NHGSFP, the initiative uses locally sourced, nutrient-rich foods to promote healthy growth, brain development, and overall well-being, strengthening the impact of the national school feeding programme.
