US-based tech entrepreneur and healthcare innovator Seun Mafa has urged Nigerians to focus on resolving the country’s challenges internally rather than depending on foreign political promises.
Mafa, CEO of 5Africa, made the comments in response to recent statements by former US President Donald J. Trump, who suggested he would “rescue Nigerian Christians.”
“While such statements may capture attention, they undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty and suggest African nations are dependent on external saviors,” Mafa said. He noted that historical examples show foreign interventions often lead to instability and weakened national institutions rather than the promised stability.
According to Mafa, Nigeria has the resources, talent, and resilience to tackle its problems. The real challenges—governance, accountability, and social divisions—must be confronted domestically. He warned that seeking foreign intervention diverts attention from the responsibilities of political and religious leaders, civic institutions, and citizens.
Mafa emphasized that sustainable solutions for vulnerable groups in Nigeria will not come from outside governments. Instead, progress depends on confronting corruption, strengthening justice systems, and fostering unity across cultural and religious lines.
“Foreign nations act in their own strategic interests. Nigeria must take responsibility for shaping its own future,” he concluded.
