Amit Shah Says All Angles Under Scrutiny After Red Fort Car Blast Kills Eight

Union home minister Amit Shah said on Monday that all possible angles were being examined in the investigation into the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed eight people and injured around twenty others. The blast, which occurred around 7 p.m. at the Subhash Marg traffic signal adjacent to the Lal Quila Metro Station, triggered a multi-agency probe and prompted an immediate security review at the highest levels of government.

Shah spoke with Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha soon after the incident to assess the situation. He also briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed condolences and said authorities were assisting the affected families. Shah is expected to chair a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the evolving investigation.

According to the home minister, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and the Delhi Police Special Cell reached the site within minutes of the explosion. He said the NIA, NSG and FSL experts joined soon after, and orders were issued to collect and examine all CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Shah refrained from commenting on the nature of the explosion, noting that it was too early for definitive conclusions.

He stressed that no line of inquiry had been ruled out. Investigators were considering mechanical malfunction, criminal intent and potential terror links, and Shah said findings would be shared with the public once the agencies gathered sufficient evidence.

Prime Minister Modi posted a message on X conveying condolences to the families of those killed and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He said he had reviewed the situation with Shah and senior officials.

Shah visited the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital on Monday night, meeting injured victims and speaking to medical teams. He reiterated that investigators were proceeding without assumptions or exclusions and that determining the cause of the blast would require a comprehensive review of all material and forensic evidence.

Officials indicated that the investigation may be transferred to the NIA, given the scale of the incident and the need for specialised forensic and technical expertise.
