Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal termed Monday evening’s explosion near the Red Fort “extremely alarming” and urged the police and government to conduct an immediate, comprehensive investigation. Posting on X, Kejriwal said it was tragic that lives had been lost and stressed that security lapses in the national capital could not be tolerated. He called for clarity on whether negligence or a larger conspiracy was involved.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia also expressed concern over the explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. He urged citizens to stay united, saying that peace and restraint were essential in moments of crisis. Sisodia added that unity was the strongest response to fear and terror.
Congress leader Pawan Khera conveyed grief over the incident and called for a transparent and speedy inquiry. He said that the government must ensure that the facts are uncovered quickly and shared with the public. Businessman Robert Vadra, reacting on Instagram, described the blast as shocking. He urged people to avoid crowded places temporarily and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi called the incident alarming and demanded strict action against those responsible. She emphasised the need for a swift investigation, noting that the safety of Delhi residents remains a top priority.
According to a senior official at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, eight people were declared dead on arrival following the blast, and seven others were injured, including three in serious condition. The explosion near the metro station also caused a fire that damaged multiple nearby vehicles. Investigations are underway as security agencies assess the circumstances and potential causes behind the incident.
