‘I Love PM Modi a Bit Too Much’: Chirag Paswan Rules Out Post-Poll Change of Heart in Bihar

Bihar, November 10, 2025: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has reaffirmed his steadfast support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dismissing any speculation about a possible post-poll shift in alliances in Bihar. Speaking ahead of the second phase of polling in the Bihar assembly elections, Paswan made it clear that his allegiance to the NDA and the Prime Minister remains unshakable.

In an interview on the ANI podcast released on Monday, Paswan spoke candidly about his relationship with PM Modi. When asked if he was in the NDA solely because of the Prime Minister, he responded without hesitation: “Of course.” He described his loyalty in personal terms, saying, “I want to emphasise again that as long as my Prime Minister is there, I am absolutely not going anywhere. My dedication and my love remain. I love him a bit too much.”

The remarks are notable in the context of Bihar politics, where post-poll alliance shifts have historically been common, often dramatically changing the state’s political landscape. Paswan’s strong statement signals that, unlike some political leaders who are perceived as opportunistic, he intends to maintain his party’s support for the NDA regardless of election outcomes.

Response to Speculations

Addressing rumors that the election results, scheduled for November 14, might not favor him, Paswan remained confident. “It is good that some think so,” he said. “Such thinking averts the evil eye.” The union minister drew on the legacy of his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan, noting that his political values and principles continue to guide him.

“I am the son of Ram Vilas Paswan ji. Whoever has seen his politics knows that the same values are within me because I am a part of him. My leader and my party have never entered into a post-poll alliance, no matter how many people called him a ‘weatherman.’ Whichever alliance he chose to go with always came to power,” Paswan said, reinforcing the continuity of the Paswan family’s political approach in Bihar.

Historical Context of LJP Alliances

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) was formed in 2000 and initially aligned with the NDA, which held the central government at the time. However, the party parted ways with the NDA in 2002 following the Godhra riots and later joined the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in 2004, during which Ram Vilas Paswan held significant ministerial portfolios.

In 2014, LJP rejoined the NDA under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, with Ram Vilas Paswan once again taking on key ministries. The party’s alliance history demonstrates both flexibility and strategic positioning, guided largely by its leadership and the political circumstances of the time.

Following the death of Ram Vilas Paswan in 2020, a leadership tussle emerged between Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Kumar Paras, leading to internal party divisions. Five of the six LJP Lok Sabha MPs sided with Paras, choosing him as their leader. In June 2021, the party formally split into two factions:

  • Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), led by Chirag Paswan
  • Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party, headed by Pashupati Kumar Paras

While Paras remained part of the NDA during the 2020 Bihar elections, Chirag Paswan contested independently, temporarily parting ways with the alliance. Despite these divisions, Chirag Paswan rejoined the NDA ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where his faction achieved a clean sweep, winning all five seats it contested in Bihar, while Paras did not participate in the polls.

Political Significance

Chirag Paswan’s declaration comes at a time when Bihar politics is highly dynamic and coalition-building is often critical to forming a government. By publicly emphasizing his loyalty to PM Modi and the NDA, Paswan seeks to position his party as a reliable ally within the alliance, contrasting with other political actors in the state who have been criticized for post-election shifts.

Analysts suggest that this strong affirmation of loyalty is not just symbolic. It also helps consolidate voter trust and reassure the NDA’s base in Bihar, particularly among communities historically aligned with the Paswan family. His personal attachment to PM Modi, framed in emotive terms as “love a bit too much,” may also resonate with voters seeking stability and consistent leadership amidst Bihar’s often unpredictable political landscape.

Looking Ahead

As the second phase of polling unfolds, the LJP (Ram Vilas) continues to campaign on the twin themes of continuity and loyalty, leveraging the Paswan legacy and the party’s historical credibility in Bihar. With the election results due on November 14, 2025, political observers will be closely monitoring not only the performance of the NDA as a whole but also Chirag Paswan’s ability to maintain his faction’s influence and deliver seats crucial for the alliance.

In conclusion, Chirag Paswan’s emphatic statement underscores a clear message to voters, party cadres, and political rivals alike: his allegiance to PM Modi and the NDA is unwavering, and there will be no post-poll recalibration of his political stance. In a state where coalition politics often shift rapidly, Paswan’s declaration seeks to provide a sense of stability, loyalty, and predictability, rooted in the enduring political ethos of his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan.
