The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has assured Nigerians that the country will soon experience improved security, citing ongoing military operations and strengthened coordination among security agencies.
Army Chief Gives Assurance After Briefing President Tinubu
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, General Shaibu said the military’s recent operations, especially in the Northeast region, have recorded “encouraging progress.”
“I came to brief the President on the outcome of my visit to the Northeast region and to review other security situations across the country. The situation remains satisfactory within this period,” he said.
According to Army Chief Shaibu, his briefing focused on the results of his operational tour and an overall assessment of security challenges nationwide.
Nigerians Urged to Expect Better Security
When asked what citizens should expect in the coming weeks, General Shaibu expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would lead to visible improvements in national security.
“Nigerians should look out for improved security across the country,” he stated.
He added that the relative improvement in safety across several regions was due to enhanced inter-agency cooperation and sustained military pressure on criminal elements.
“The overall security situation has been satisfactory due to better coordination among the armed forces and continued offensives against criminal networks,” he explained.
Background: Security Concerns Amid Trump’s Threat of Military Action
The Army Chief’s remarks come amid growing concerns about Nigeria’s security situation, following recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened military intervention over alleged genocide against Christians in parts of the country — a claim the Nigerian government has strongly denied.
General Shaibu, however, maintained that the Nigerian military remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, assuring citizens that ongoing operations are focused on restoring stability and public confidence.
