A Nigerian cleric, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, has vowed to take the Nigerian government before the International Criminal Court (ICC) over what he described as a systematic genocide against Christians in the country’s northern region.
Dachomo Accuses Government of Complicity
Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, Rev Dachomo accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of failing to stop ongoing killings in Plateau and other northern states. He alleged that some repentant Boko Haram members have been recruited into Nigeria’s security forces, claiming this has worsened the violence against Christians.
“The repentant Boko Haram members have been recruited into the Nigerian Army, Air Force, and Police. That’s why Christians must have a say in politics,” he said.
Dachomo dismissed claims that Muslims are equally being targeted in the attacks, insisting that the pattern of violence shows deliberate targeting of Christian communities.
“When they come shouting Allahu Akbar, they behead Christians and lick their blood. Muslims say they are also being killed — where? Look at the latest killing and tell me this is not genocide,” he said.
Cleric Supports U.S. Intervention
The Plateau-based cleric voiced strong support for U.S. intervention, especially that of former U.S. President Donald Trump, whom he said had shown concern for persecuted Christians in Africa.
“I’m over 100% in support of President Donald Trump’s intervention because the Nigerian government’s hands are tied,” Dachomo stated.
He said he was ready to provide evidence before international bodies, including the ICC, to prove that the Nigerian government and some organizations were complicit in the killings.
“We are planning to take Nigeria before the International Criminal Court and sue the Miyetti Allah association for their role in these atrocities,” he said.
Plateau Cleric Cites Evidence of Atrocities
Rev Dachomo, who serves as the Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, shared harrowing accounts of attacks on Christian villages.
He recalled the 2010 Dogo Nahawa massacre, where over 500 people were killed in one night by suspected Fulani militants.
“Since my outcry, my village has been attacked several times. Over 50 people, including my family and friends, have been slaughtered. My best friend’s wife and five children were burned alive,” he recounted.
‘Worshippers Burnt Alive During Service’
According to Dachomo, one of the most horrifying incidents occurred in Jaruwa community, where worshippers were burnt alive during a church service.
“None survived because the terrorists surrounded the church, set it on fire with gas lamps, and trapped everyone inside,” he said.
He added that he is currently documenting incidents of Christian killings across Plateau communities, including Wurekum, Doruwa, Mangu, and Bokkos, to compile a comprehensive report for international submission.
“Hundreds of lives have been lost in attacks that were never documented. Many victims remain unaccounted for. I will compile all these incidents and present them to the world to show that genocide is happening in Nigeria,” Dachomo vowed.
