Body Urges Nigeria Union of Private Cab Operators to Shun Partisan Politics

The Nigeria Union of Private Cab Operators (NUPCO) has been advised to avoid partisan politics and prioritize the welfare of its members. The call came during the presentation of the union’s certificate of registration in Lagos.

Rufus Olusesan, President of Precision Electrical and Related Equipment Senior Staff Association, urged NUPCO to resist policies that could undermine workers’ rights.

“Negotiation skills and collective bargaining strategies are key given the current hardships. You must apply these tools to ensure the union progresses. Beyond this, unity is essential—when you are united and free from discrimination, progress follows,” Olusesan said.

Itemoagbo Eshomounu, State Controller of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, representing the Minister, encouraged the union to improve standards and enhance the welfare of its members. He emphasized that workers, as wealth creators, have been instrumental in the country’s development and assured that the Federal Government will address challenges facing workers across all sectors.

Eshomounu also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships between labour and employers in both public and private sectors.

In his acceptance speech, Ademola Adepegba, National President of NUPCO, pledged to defend the integrity and welfare of union members.

“Today, NUPCO is officially born. All private cab operators at airports, shopping malls, and hotels are now expected by law to join the union as branches. We will continue to fight for our members’ rights and protect their operational interests,” Adepegba said.
