Melsmore Marine, Maritime Workers’ Union Seal Landmark Welfare Agreement

Melsmore Marine Limited has signed a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) to enhance worker welfare and strengthen industrial harmony.

The agreement, formalized at Melsmore’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, provides improved working conditions and remuneration for unionised staff of the marine services firm.

MWUN President, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, described the development as “a landmark achievement for both the management of Melsmore Marine Limited and the leadership of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria.” He highlighted that the pact reflects the company’s commitment to fair labour practices and worker satisfaction, which he noted is critical to business success.

“No good industrial firm will neglect the welfare of its workers and the moral ethics of its status quo,” Bunu said, emphasizing the link between employee well-being and productivity.

The union leader commended Melsmore for proactively reviewing wages to address the rising cost of living, describing the move as a step that would “uplift the spirit and output of union workers.”

Bunu assured continued collaboration between MWUN and Melsmore to maintain a peaceful and productive industrial relationship, noting that mutual understanding is key to achieving optimum output and sustainable business growth.

The signing represents another milestone in MWUN’s ongoing efforts to secure improved welfare, fair wages, and workplace harmony for maritime employees across Nigeria’s ports and shipping sector.
