Nigeria, UAE Sign MoU to Boost Digital Skills Development for Youth

Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on digital education and skills development, aiming to prepare Nigerian youth for active participation in the global digital economy.

The agreement was signed at a formal ceremony in Dubai, with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development representing Nigeria and the UAE Digital School, under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), representing the UAE.

The MoU will expand access to digital education and practical skill development through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) platform, providing young Nigerians with tools and opportunities to thrive in a fast-changing digital world.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, described the agreement as a “major milestone” for Nigeria, emphasizing its role in equipping youth with skills for the future of work. He added:

“What we celebrate today goes beyond Nigeria. It stands as a symbol of shared responsibility, shared progress, and shared hope for the youth of both nations.”

Dr. Waleed Al Ali, leading the UAE Digital School, noted that the initiative is part of MBRGI’s global mission to provide digital learning opportunities to underserved communities. Through the partnership, Nigeria will leverage the UAE school’s infrastructure, expertise, and resources to enhance digital inclusion nationwide.

Olawande also praised the ministry’s technical partner, Sapphital Limited, and the ministry’s dedicated team for their role in advancing the Nigerian Youth Academy and related digital empowerment projects.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda by providing modern, skill-based education that prepares youth for future employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the digital economy.
