Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has denied rumours of a political alliance with former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obi firmly stated that no agreement exists between them to challenge or unseat President Bola Tinubu.
The clarification came from Obi’s media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, during an exclusive interview with The PUNCH.
Tanko addressed growing speculation and political tension following a recent closed-door meeting between the former Anambra governor and Jonathan in Abuja. The meeting had fueled rumours of a possible opposition coalition.
He explained, “My principal and the former president share a cordial relationship and have known each other for a long time. Their meeting should not be misinterpreted. It was simply a friendly, platonic discussion focused on how to move the country forward.
