On Thursday, the Nigeria Coalition Group and Yoruba Council Worldwide staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, urging the government to protect the Dangote Refinery and fully implement President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Led by Aare Oladotun Hassan, the protesters demanded:
- A 15% import duty on refined petroleum products.
- A total ban on the importation of PMS and AGO to safeguard domestic refining.
- 100% crude oil allocation to the Dangote Refinery to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Hassan accused oil cabals and PENGASSAN (led by Comrade Festus Osifo) of sabotaging the refinery and criticized DAPPMAN for lobbying to extend fuel import licenses until early 2026, which he described as a threat to Nigeria’s energy independence.
The protest also highlighted economic losses of over ₦30 billion due to refinery delays and sabotage. Several civil society groups, including the Nigeria Youth Coalition, Coalition of Southern Groups, and National Youth Stakeholders Forum, supported the demonstration.
Hassan called on the federal government to prioritize local refining, reduce fuel imports, and strengthen the Dangote Refinery as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy security.
