Seventy-four National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members narrowly escaped abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State. The group, comprising 36 males and 38 females, was stranded when their vehicles broke down near a known kidnapping hotspot.
The swift intervention of troops from Operation Hadin Kai, a joint military operation against insurgents in the North East, prevented a potential abduction.
Lt Col. Sani Uba, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, explained that the rescue occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after the military, monitoring the area via CCTV, detected suspicious movements involving three buses. Troops were immediately deployed and secured the NYSC members.
The rescued corps members are currently accommodated at the Buratai military base, with arrangements underway for their safe relocation.
This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the North East and the critical role of military vigilance in protecting civilians.
