The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday conducted a computer-based promotional examination for 6,000 Directorate cadre staff under the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The exam also took place for candidates in the UK, USA, India, and Egypt.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the test was held at the JAMB CBT Centre in Kogo, Bwari Area Council.
Speaking to journalists, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede commended the initiative, describing it as a bold step by the Federal Civil Service Commission. He emphasized that the exam system is user-friendly, noting that candidates only need basic digital literacy to navigate the test successfully.
“Once you know how to use your cell phone, you’ll be able to write our examination successfully. This exam is taking place not only within Nigeria but also across four countries,” he said.
Dr. Hussaini Adamu, Commissioner representing FCT and Niger on the Federal Civil Service Commission, praised the exercise as transparent and efficient, noting that candidates initially apprehensive about the CBT quickly adapted and preferred it over the traditional pen-and-paper method.
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Adetunji Olaopa, described the exercise as a significant milestone, being the first time the commission has employed CBT for Directorate cadre promotions. He highlighted the importance of partnering with JAMB, given its decades of experience in conducting computer-based examinations.
This initiative marks a progressive step toward modernizing staff assessment and promotion within the Federal Civil Service, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and wider accessibility for candidates, both domestically and internationally.
