Ariana Grande Shows Love for Singapore After Scary Red Carpet Incident at Wicked: For Good Premiere

Ariana Grande is sending love to Singapore despite a frightening red carpet encounter at the premiere of her new film, Wicked: For Good.

On Thursday, November 13, 32-year-old Grande — who stars as Glinda in the highly anticipated sequel — was walking the yellow brick road carpet at Universal Studios Singapore when a man ran at her and grabbed her. Security quickly intervened, and co-star Cynthia Erivo stepped in to protect Grande. The singer appeared visibly shaken by the incident.

The man, identified as Johnson Wen, 26, has been charged by a Singapore court with being a public nuisance, according to BBC reports. Wen appeared in court via video link on Friday, November 14, and is expected to plead guilty on Monday, November 17.

Wen, who goes by the online nickname “Pyjama Man,” is known for crashing celebrity events. In June, he ran on stage during a Katy Perry performance, and in August, he interrupted a show by The Weeknd.

Despite the unsettling encounter, Grande shared her appreciation for the country on Instagram. Posting a carousel of photos from the press tour, including shots in a pink Balenciaga gown and her premiere Thom Browne dress, she wrote:

“thank you, Singapore ♡ we love you 🫧”

Wen, meanwhile, posted on Instagram after the incident:

“Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You ❤️”
“I’m free after being arrested.”

Grande has previously opened up about trauma and anxiety stemming from the 2017 Manchester concert bombing, which killed 22 people, sharing with British Vogue that her ongoing struggles with PTSD and anxiety are a real challenge.
