Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge Make History with Back-to-Back MVP Awards

Los Angeles, CA – November 14, 2025 – Major League Baseball history was made Thursday as Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees claimed MVP honors in their respective leagues, marking the first time two players have won back-to-back MVPs in the same seasons.

Ohtani Dominates National League

Ohtani, 31, earned his fourth MLB MVP award and third consecutive title in the National League, receiving all 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). His historic season included:

  • 55 home runs (career-high)
  • 146 runs scored (NL-best)
  • .622 slugging percentage
  • 1.014 OPS in 158 games
  • Return to pitching after 18 months off, posting a 2.87 ERA in 14 starts with 62 strikeouts against nine walks over 47 innings

Ohtani also hit eight home runs in 17 postseason games, leading the Dodgers to their second consecutive World Series title, though playoff performance was not considered in the MVP voting.

“It was a great year,” Ohtani said via translator on MLB Network. “I’m grateful to my teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans who supported us all season.”

Judge Takes American League MVP

Aaron Judge, 33, narrowly edged Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners to win his third American League MVP, collecting 17 of 30 first-place votes and 355 points. Judge’s remarkable campaign featured:

  • 53 home runs, ranking among MLB leaders
  • .331 batting average, leading the majors
  • .457 on-base percentage
  • .688 slugging percentage

Judge now joins an elite group of three-time MVP winners alongside legends like Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, and Mike Trout.

“It’s pretty wild,” Judge said. “I try to keep my head down through all 162 games and do whatever I can to help our team win.”

Notable Runners-Up

In the National League, Kyle Schwarber finished second with 56 homers and 132 RBIs, followed by Juan Soto, Geraldo Perdomo, and Trea Turner. In the American League, Jose Ramirez, Bobby Witt Jr, and Tarik Skubal—who won his second consecutive Cy Young Award—rounded out the top five.
