Former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has launched a scathing political attack on President Bola Tinubu, declaring that he has “no pathway” to securing a second term in 2027. She insisted his exit from office is “non-negotiable.”
Onochie, who served under the late President Muhammadu Buhari as a Social Media Aide and later as Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, made the remarks at a recent political gathering while distancing herself from the current administration.
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, Onochie was seen addressing supporters and expressing regret over backing Tinubu in the 2023 election.
“Tinubu has no pathway to return in 2027. We are not saying maybe or maybe not. He’s gone. Tinubu is gone,” she declared.
She added that her decision to support him during the last election had become a personal embarrassment.
“He was elected by the people including me standing here — and shamefully too, and regrettably too,” she lamented.
Onochie stated that her political movement would adopt a calm and principled approach going forward, contrasting it with what she described as aggressive tactics by Tinubu’s supporters.
“We will work gently. We are not going to be running around or doing whatever they are doing. We are not going to go with them,” she said, adding that her followers would “stand our ground respectfully without insulting anyone.”
Predicting the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, she concluded:
“We will just march on in 2027 and I think 2027 he will be gone. It is non-negotiable. He is gone already.”
Opposition Figures Also Predict APC Loss If Jonathan Runs
Her comments come amid growing political speculation ahead of 2027. In October, Ademola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, similarly forecast political trouble for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Olarewaju argued that the APC would face a “devastating defeat” if former President Goodluck Jonathan contests under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“If Goodluck Jonathan comes into the primaries and contests in a competitive primary and he wins, we all will support him. Then APC loses. APC would have no base in that election,” he said.
Olarewaju added that Atiku Abubakar remains
