Khushi Kapoor’s NYFA Scholarship Sparks Online Trolls After Boney Kapoor’s Comments Resurface

Khushi Kapoor, the youngest daughter of filmmaker Boney Kapoor and late superstar Sridevi, recently found herself in the middle of a social media storm after a resurfaced video highlighted her academic achievement at the New York Film Academy (NYFA). In the video, Boney Kapoor proudly revealed that Khushi received a full scholarship to the prestigious film school, which reportedly covered her tuition entirely.

Scholarship Details

In an interview with Komal Nahta last month, Boney Kapoor shared, “You know, Khushi was admitted to this New York Film Academy on scholarship. I didn’t have to pay the fees.” When asked how the scholarship was awarded, he explained, “You send your audition to decide whether you can be admitted or not. And she was offered a scholarship.” While the comments were meant to celebrate Khushi’s achievement, the video resurfaced on social media, attracting criticism and trolling from netizens.

Online Backlash

The internet reaction was swift and harsh. Many users questioned the merit of the scholarship, citing Khushi’s mixed performances in her early films. One Reddit user wrote, “I wish my parents lied about me like this but hamari to sirf logo ke samne samuhik bezzati hoti hai 😂😭.” Another commented, “Not even a single cell in her body has an ability to act. Scholarship is too far fetched lol.”

Some trolls speculated that the scholarship was based on her mother Sridevi’s legacy rather than Khushi’s talent. One harsh comment read, “LOL! This is embarrassing. I guess they sent one of Sri’s scenes and academy thought it was Khushi. I have seen one of Khushi’s interviews and she seems like a good kid but come on, without even having watched her movie, the clips are enough to tell that as of now she can’t act well. So on what basis was the scholarship given?” Another social media user joked, “Delulu pro max. New York Film Academy mein scholarship it seems 🤣🤣 either the academy is bakwaas or Khushi ne kisi aur look like ka audition bhej diya and then claimed her face looks different cause of surgery lol.”

Khushi’s Film Journey

Khushi made her acting debut in 2023 alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, and rumoured boyfriend Vedang Raina in The Archies. The film received mixed reviews and failed to make a strong impact at the box office. This year, she made her theatrical debut in Loveyapa opposite Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan, which showcased her potential according to some critics. Her OTT release, Nadaaniyan, co-starring Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan, was widely panned, with her performance becoming a topic for memes and online criticism.

Despite the trolling, some fans and critics have noted that Khushi has shown promise in select projects, suggesting that her career trajectory could improve with experience and training. The NYFA scholarship, whether purely merit-based or influenced by her lineage, may provide her with a platform to further hone her craft.

Looking Ahead

As Khushi continues to navigate the pressures of being a star kid in Bollywood, her upcoming projects will likely be under intense scrutiny. The actor has the opportunity to prove her talent on screen and silence critics while leveraging her training at the NYFA to refine her acting skills.
