Trump Withdraws Support for Marjorie Taylor Greene as Rift Deepens Over Epstein Files Vote

United States President Donald Trump has abruptly withdrawn his endorsement of Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, escalating a dramatic feud inside the GOP at a politically sensitive moment. The fallout comes just days before the House is expected to vote on whether to force the release of long-hidden Jeffrey Epstein investigation files, an explosive issue Greene has championed.

In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump announced that he was officially ending his backing of Greene, calling the Georgia lawmaker a “lunatic” who had shifted “far left” and done little but “complain”.

Trump Labels Greene ‘Wacky’ and Accuses Her of Turning on Him

Trump wrote:

“I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene of the great state of Georgia.”

The president, who once relied heavily on Greene as one of his most loyal defenders, said she had become “wacky” and incapable of appreciating his “record achievements”. Greene’s transformation from MAGA firebrand to outspoken critic on certain issues has been one of the most visible ideological rifts inside the Republican Party in 2025.

Greene long held a reputation as one of Trump’s fiercest allies—famously wearing a MAGA hat during President Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address. But in recent months, she has publicly clashed with Republicans and the White House on several issues, including during the most recent federal government shutdown.

Greene: Trump Trying to ‘Make an Example’ of Me Before Epstein Files Vote

Responding to Trump’s attack, Greene posted screenshots of a text message she sent him regarding the Epstein files, saying that the message “sent him over the edge.”

Greene argued that Trump’s sudden hostility was tied directly to her push for the full release of Epstein-related documents.

She wrote on X:

“It’s astonishing how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out… He’s going after me to scare other Republicans before next week’s vote.”

Greene accused Trump of prioritizing damage control over transparency, saying Americans were tired of political elites protecting themselves from accountability.

“Most Americans wish he would fight this hard for the forgotten men and women of America,” she added.

House Set to Vote on Releasing Epstein Files

House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed that the House will vote next week on whether to force the Department of Justice to disclose all remaining files tied to Jeffrey Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

The push gained momentum through the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, enabled by a discharge petition signed by Greene and three other Republicans.

If approved, the legislation would require the release of:

  • Epstein’s flight logs
  • Travel records
  • Names of individuals referenced in the investigations
  • Files relating to Maxwell’s trafficking network

This comes as new emails released by House Democrats appear to further connect Trump to Epstein—claims the White House denies.

Trump Dismisses Epstein Allegations as ‘Hoax’

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released fresh emails Wednesday, including a message in which Epstein told Maxwell that Trump had “spent hours” with one alleged victim at his home. The White House insisted the emails “prove nothing”.

Trump has repeatedly said there is no Epstein client list with his name on it, calling the scandal a “Democratic hoax.”

Greene Calls Trump’s Move a ‘Huge Miscalculation’

In an interview Friday, Greene called Trump’s decision to break ties with her a “huge miscalculation”, claiming she does not believe he is hiding anything but that she is committed to transparency.

She claimed Trump’s real grievance was her refusal to back down politically.

Meanwhile, Trump said his break with Greene began earlier, claiming he discouraged her from running for senator or governor because of poor polling numbers. He also said Greene had complained that he no longer responded to her calls:

“I can’t take a ranting lunatic’s call every day.”

Trump Signals Support for a Greene Primary Challenger

Trump closed his Truth Social post by encouraging Republicans in Georgia to consider replacing Greene in the next election:

“Republicans in Georgia are fed up with her antics… Any alternative will have my complete and unyielding support.”

The feud sets the stage for a volatile internal GOP battle heading into the 2026 midterms—one that could shape both the future of the party and the political fate of the Epstein files.
