Connection to Terror Investigation
Alam was intercepted by NIA officers while returning from a wedding ceremony at his ancestral home. The agency tracked his movements using mobile-tower location data.
- Suspected Link: Authorities suspect his involvement in activities related to the recent Delhi car blast near the Red Fort, which the government has termed a terrorist incident and which claimed 13 lives.
- Search and Interrogation: Alam was taken into custody after he allegedly attempted to flee during preliminary questioning. Digital devices and documents were seized from his possession. He was initially taken to Siliguri for further questioning.
- Official Charges: The NIA is yet to provide detailed information on how Nisar is allegedly linked to the blasts or comment officially on the nature of the charges, but he is suspected of having connections with the terror modules.
The investigation is working to establish if Alam had any connection to Moinul Hasan, a migrant worker whose residence in Murshidabad district was also raided by the NIA. Hasan had reportedly shared accommodation with a Bangladeshi national in Delhi and is being examined for potential links to extremist organizations.
Al-Falah University Under Scanner
Alam’s arrest adds to the growing list of individuals associated with Al-Falah University who have been implicated in the probe:
- The university has come under national focus after a number of its doctors, including Dr. Umar Nabi (the suspected driver of the explosive-laden car) and Dr. Muzammil Ganaie (from whose premises 2,900 kg of IED-making material was recovered), were arrested for their alleged involvement in the “white-collar terror module” linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed.
- The university is facing severe scrutiny, with police and central agencies conducting multiple searches and questioning numerous personnel.
Family Reaction
Alam’s relatives and family members have expressed shock and disbelief over the allegations, maintaining that he is a quiet, studious, and law-abiding individual.
- His uncle stated: “He was a very calm and a polite young man, always busy with his studies and showing no interest in anything else. To think that he could be connected to an explosion is simply unbelievable.”
- His mother claimed the accusations against him are beyond comprehension.
