The two individuals named by Rohini Acharya in her post, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, are part of the inner circle and trusted advisors of her younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, the heir apparent of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Their names at the center of the family feud underscore a deep-seated rift between Lalu Yadav’s children and Tejashwi’s non-family political team.
1. Sanjay Yadav
Sanjay Yadav is one of the most significant and influential figures in the RJD after the Lalu family members.
- Political Role: He is currently a Member of Parliament (MP), Rajya Sabha from the RJD (elected in 2024). He is known as a senior political advisor and close aide to Tejashwi Yadav, overseeing strategy, data analysis, and election management.
- Background: He hails from Haryana and has an MBA degree. He first met Tejashwi when the latter was an IPL cricket player. He joined the RJD in 2012.
- The Conflict: Resentment toward Sanjay Yadav has been publicly mounting within the Lalu family. Tejashwi’s older brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, previously labeled Sanjay Yadav a “Jaichand” (traitor), holding him responsible for his own estrangement from the family and the party. Rohini Acharya had also previously expressed displeasure about his expanding influence, particularly after he occupied a prominent seat on Tejashwi’s campaign bus reserved for top party leadership.
2. Rameez (Rameez Nemat Khan)
Rameez is another trusted member of Tejashwi Yadav’s core team.
- Association: He is reportedly an old friend of Tejashwi Yadav, dating back to their school and cricket days in Delhi.
- Political Role: Rameez is said to hail from a political family in neighboring Uttar Pradesh. He handles some of Tejashwi Yadav’s daily routine, campaign management, and social media coordination, often working under the guidance of Sanjay Yadav.
The Context of Rohini’s Accusation
Rohini Acharya’s post, made after the RJD’s devastating performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, publicly blames these two aides of her brother, suggesting they were the ones who pushed her out:
“I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do…and I’m taking all the blame.”
Following the post, Rohini also accused the two aides and Tejashwi of abusing and hitting her when she questioned them about the party’s electoral failure, claiming they were the ones who “threw me out of the family.” The public naming of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez indicates that the crisis in the Lalu family is rooted in an internal power struggle between the family members and Tejashwi’s politically powerful inner circle.
