CNG Supply to Mumbai Disrupted After Pipeline Damage, Auto and Public Transport Services Hit

Mumbai’s CNG supply was disrupted on Saturday following damage to a major gas pipeline, Mahangar Gas Limited (MGL) said. The incident occurred when the main GAIL (Gas Authority of India) pipeline inside the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) compound sustained damage, affecting gas delivery to MGL’s City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala.

“Due to third-party damage in the main gas supply pipeline of GAIL inside the RCF compound, gas supply to MGL’s City Gate Station at Wadala has been affected,” MGL said in a statement.

The disruption impacted several sectors, including public transport buses, autorickshaws, and taxis, including cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola, which rely on compressed natural gas. CNG stations across Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai—including those catering specifically to public transport—were affected by the stoppage.

MGL assured residential piped natural gas (PNG) consumers that supplies would continue uninterrupted. Industries and commercial enterprises dependent on CNG were advised to switch to alternate fuels temporarily.

By evening, the damage was repaired, and MGL restored gas supply to the CNG stations. Officials said full normalisation of supply across the network is expected soon.
