A former chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Hon. Timothy Nsirim, has been accused of orchestrating the abduction and brutalisation of a young man, Mr. Nyekazi, following a disagreement over the burial arrangements of his late father.
Both Nsirim and the victim are members of the Rumueme kingdom in Obio/Akpor.
Family sources told SaharaReporters that Nsirim invited Mr. Nyekazi for a meeting to discuss unresolved issues relating to his father’s pending burial. However, the situation escalated when Nyekazi arrived at the former council chairman’s residence and unexpectedly found his uncle, Mr. Samuel Ibemeru, present.
According to sources, Mr. Nyekazi has long suspected his uncle of playing a role in his father’s death. Unable to tolerate the encounter, he reportedly told Nsirim he could not remain in the same room with someone he believed contributed to his father’s demise. He then walked out of the meeting, an action that allegedly angered the former LG chairman.
SaharaReporters gathered that the following morning, Nsirim purportedly sent a group of men to track down and forcefully bring back the young man.
“He was tied up like an animal to die,” one family source said.
“Because Mr. Nyekazi walked away from the meeting, Hon. Timothy became angry and sent boys to get him early the next morning. They tied him up for hours. His hands are now giving him serious problems. He is in excruciating pain in both arms, and his knees are badly injured,” the source added.
Photographs obtained by SaharaReporters show the victim lying on the ground with visible swelling, bruising, and trauma around his arms and knees, appearing to be in severe distress.
Further details about the alleged assault, including whether a formal complaint has been filed and Nsirim’s response to the accusations, were still being gathered at the time of filing this report.
