Ford Partners with Amazon to Sell Used Vehicles Online, Following Hyundai

Detroit, Nov 17, 2025Ford Motor Co (F.N) will allow customers to browse and buy used Ford vehicles on Amazon (AMZN.O) starting Monday, joining Hyundai in offering online options for buyers seeking to avoid dealership visits.

Online Certified Pre-Owned Program

The program initially targets Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas, offering only certified pre-owned vehicles—used models that have passed rigorous inspections and come with specific warranties. Customers can complete their purchase online but must pick up the vehicle at a participating dealer.

Ford CEO Jim Farley noted that Tesla’s direct-to-consumer online model provides a cost advantage, and Ford has been expanding its online vehicle availability, particularly for electric models.

Dealer Participation

About 160–180 dealers expressed interest in the program, with approximately 20 dealers actively launching sales through Amazon, according to an Amazon Autos spokesperson.

“Automakers are increasingly offering online-focused shopping experiences for customers who prefer to avoid traditional dealership hours,” the spokesperson said.

Background: Online Car Sales

Hyundai became the first automaker to sell vehicles through Amazon in late 2023, offering new models on the platform. Ford is now the second automaker to embrace online sales via Amazon, reflecting the growing trend of digital car purchasing.

Tesla remains unique in selling new electric vehicles directly to consumers online, bypassing franchise dealer laws in certain U.S. states, while Ford and General Motors are bound to sell through dealers.
