Police in Nasarawa State have arrested Maro Ebojoh, a 40-year-old man from Ogbara Inland, Etiope East LGA, Delta State, over allegations of organ trafficking and rescued three potential victims.
The suspect, who was apprehended by security operatives at Sabo Motor Park, Lafia, reportedly lured victims under the pretext of paying them large sums of money in exchange for their kidneys. He was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Speaking to journalists at the state command headquarters, Commissioner of Police Mohammed Jauro said Maro had confessed to his involvement in organ harvesting.
According to CP Jauro, the three victims—Umar Barau (25), Suleiman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Daring (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27)—were promised N2 million each for their kidneys. The suspect had taken the victims to a hospital in Abuja for medical evaluation to determine their fitness for transplant. During the evaluation, one victim’s blood pressure spiked, prompting police operatives from Lafia to intervene and rescue all three.
The suspect further confessed that his client had agreed to pay N6.5 million for the organs, with N500,000 paid in advance for each victim. He also admitted that two months ago, he had successfully completed a kidney transplant transaction, paying N2.5 million to a donor.
CP Jauro warned citizens to avoid being lured by promises of easy money and commended the Inspector General of Police, Egbotokun Kayode, and Governor Abdullahi Sule for supporting law enforcement efforts.
The police have also intensified security measures in the area, establishing joint checkpoints with the Civil Defence and the Army to curb potential escalation of criminal activities. Residents were urged to report suspicious behavior to security agencies immediately.
