Lil Nas X, the 26-year-old Grammy-winning rapper known for hits like Old Town Road, made his first public court appearance on Monday, November 17, 2025, following his August arrest on assault charges in Los Angeles. The star appeared at the Van Nuys courthouse smiling and reportedly in good spirits after completing an inpatient treatment program.
According to his attorney, Drew Findling, Lil Nas X (legal name Montero Hill) is “doing amazing, doing great, and we’re super happy for him.” Findling expressed optimism for a favorable outcome, saying, “We’re looking forward to a positive resolution in this case, which we’re very confident of.”
Background on the Arrest
Lil Nas X was arrested on August 21, 2025, after reports surfaced that he was walking nearly naked along Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles. Authorities claim he used force against multiple police officers. He faced three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer.
During his initial arraignment on August 25, Lil Nas X waived his appearance and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $75,000, and the court required him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week. He was released the same day.
In a personal video shared on Instagram shortly after the incident, Lil Nas X assured fans, saying:
“Your girl is gonna be okay, boo… That was f—ing terrifying… But your girl is gonna be all right.”
First Court Appearance After Treatment
The November 17 appearance was Lil Nas X’s first since leaving the inpatient treatment program he entered after his August arrest. The hearing focused on a protective order covering the transfer of discovery in the case.
Following the appearance, Findling emphasized the focus on Lil Nas X’s well-being, both personally and professionally:
“He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. He’s had a great life, and he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s going to get over.”
The next court date is scheduled for March 12, 2026.
Legal and Personal Notes
Lil Nas X’s attorney, Christy O’Connor, has denied any involvement of drugs in the incident, describing it as an “absolute aberration” in his life. If convicted, Lil Nas X faces up to five years in prison, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.
Despite the serious charges, the star appears to be maintaining a positive outlook, continuing his recovery and professional activities while navigating the legal process.
