The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has raised concerns over more than 294,000 driver’s licences lying unclaimed at Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) centres nationwide.
In a statement, PEBEC’s Director-General, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, commended the FRSC for swiftly resolving nationwide delays in licence production. The Corps recently conducted a full-scale internal review, identified bottlenecks in its national production system, and restored full functionality.
The FRSC has now cleared the backlog and increased its daily production capacity to 15,000 licences, a development expected to significantly reduce waiting times. A new Contactless Biometric Capture System has also been rolled out, enabling applicants to receive permanent licences within 48 hours, eliminating the need for temporary cards.
Despite these improvements, PEBEC warned that unclaimed licences are contributing to congestion at collection points and slowing down service delivery. The council urged all applicants whose licences are ready to visit FRSC centres promptly to collect them.
“Applicants whose licences have been produced should visit FRSC centres nationwide and pick up their permanent driver’s licences,” the statement read.
PEBEC reaffirmed its commitment to working with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure efficient, citizen-centered, and business-friendly public service delivery across Nigeria.
