MTN Nigeria’s Active Data Users Hit 51.1 Million

MTN Nigeria has reaffirmed its position as a key partner in achieving the Federal Government’s broadband goals, with its active data user base now at 51.1 million, representing a 12.8% increase.

The growth is attributed to MTN’s leadership in 4G/5G deployment and the accelerated rollout of its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network. The company has also reinforced its role as a leading corporate social investor, dedicating over N32.23 billion to national priorities through the MTN Foundation.

The Foundation’s investments focus on youth empowerment, digital inclusion, and national development, reflecting MTN’s strategy of creating shared value. Beneficiaries include students like Sofiya Mustapha, a visually impaired learner who gained access to programming courses through MTN scholarships, and Akas Ngozi, who benefited from STEM initiatives.

MTN said it has achieved over 82% 4G coverage and is the first to roll out 5G in Nigeria, reaching an estimated 15 million people. Its capital expenditure surged 248% to N757.4 billion, focusing on network capacity enhancement and ultra-fast broadband delivery.

Demand for data remains strong, with data traffic up 36.3% YoY and average usage per subscriber rising 20.8% to 13.2GB. The home broadband base now stands at 4 million subscribers, adding 281,000 in Q3 2025 alone.

MTN’s financial strength underpins these investments, posting a profit after tax of N750.2 billion and contributing over ₦6.9 trillion in taxes. Beyond telecommunications, the company is advancing infrastructure development, including rehabilitation of the 110km Enugu-Onitsha Expressway under the RITC scheme, which is 50% complete.

Chief Corporate Services & Sustainability Officer stated:

“We are committed to providing access to connectivity at the fingertips of every Nigerian. Everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.”

MTN also supports the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, aligning with its vision of driving inclusive digital growth across Nigeria.
