The investigation into the tragic death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez continues to intensify, as a police source now claims that musician d4vd, born David Anthony Burke, is not cooperating with authorities. The rising artist, whose music gained national attention over the last few years, remains a central figure in the case after the teen was found deceased in his vehicle in September 2025.
Investigators Say the Singer Has Not Participated in Interviews
According to an exclusive police source speaking with PEOPLE, the 20-year-old singer has “not cooperated from the beginning,” despite earlier claims from a representative who told NBC Los Angeles that the artist was “fully cooperating.”
The law enforcement source says investigators have not yet interviewed the musician and are still determining what role, if any, he or others may have played.
While d4vd has officially been identified as a suspect, police emphasize that the investigation is still active and that several unanswered questions remain — including the exact timeline of Celeste’s death.
Cause of Death Still Pending as Authorities Await Key Reports
Officials are currently awaiting the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s final determination, which will include toxicology findings. Until this information is finalized, authorities say they cannot pursue any charges or arrests.
“We are working to determine if her death was a murder or something else,” a police source tells PEOPLE. Investigators have narrowed the estimated time of death to sometime in the spring, but no more specific timeline has been established.
What Led Police to d4vd’s Vehicle
Celeste Rivas Hernandez was discovered on Sept. 8, one day after her 15th birthday, inside the trunk of the singer’s impounded Tesla while he was touring in the U.S. The car had reportedly been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills for about a month before neighbors alerted police due to a concerning odor.
Authorities confirmed the body’s identity shortly afterward. Her cause and manner of death were initially listed as “deferred,” pending further examination.
A police source confirmed investigators are treating the case as a homicide investigation, though they have not disclosed any specific findings publicly.
Celeste’s History and Prior Missing Person Reports
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported that Celeste had been reported missing multiple times in 2024. Community members indicated she had run away previously, but her final known movements before her death remain unclear.
LAPD Captain Scot M. Williams previously told PEOPLE that Celeste had been deceased for “several weeks” before her discovery.
Search Warrants and Ongoing Leads
In September, LAPD investigators carried out a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills home where d4vd had been staying. A separate source previously shared with PEOPLE that authorities believed more than one person may have been involved in handling the teen’s remains.
The LAPD, d4vd’s attorney, and his representatives did not respond to requests for comment this week.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish a clear timeline and determine who may have been responsible for the circumstances leading to Celeste’s death.
