The emotional tension between Boston Blue’s Danny Reagan and Maria Baez reached new heights in Episode 6, as the beloved former NYPD partners faced the challenges of balancing duty, distance and devotion. The CBS spinoff continues to explore Danny’s career shift to Boston and how it impacts the deepening relationship fans have followed since Blue Bloods.
Danny and Baez Reunite Amid His Hectic New Life in Boston
The sixth episode, which aired Friday, Nov. 21, delivers the most screen time the couple has shared since the series began. As Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) juggles his demanding caseload at the Boston Police Department, Baez (Marisa Ramirez) travels from New York to reconnect — and to figure out what their long-distance romance really looks like.
The episode opens on a warm note, with Baez surprising Danny at his new Boston apartment. They pop champagne to celebrate finally being together again after nearly a month apart. Danny jokes about still settling into the space, though the moment is short-lived: duty calls, and he’s forced to postpone their plans.
“If anyone understands the demands of the job, it’s your old partner,” Baez reminds him, though it’s clear the distance is wearing on them both.
Danny Struggles to Balance Work Responsibilities and His Relationship
Throughout the episode, Danny tries to reassure his current partner, Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), that Baez understands his unpredictable lifestyle. He even sends Baez flowers — a gesture he hopes makes up for the time apart.
Baez soon arrives at the BPD, coffee in hand for both Danny and Lena. Not only does she make a friendly impression, but she also lends her investigative skills to Danny’s latest case involving violent home invasions. Her presence reinforces the connection they’ve built over years of solving cases together.
During their rescheduled lunch, however, Baez openly admits she’s still adjusting to Danny’s relocation.
“I’m still getting my head around Brooklyn living in Beantown,” she says, prompting Danny to explain again that moving to Boston was necessary after his son Sean was injured in a fire.
Despite their efforts, work interrupts the date yet again.
Baez Reveals Her True Feelings — and the Distance Starts to Show
Later, Baez shares difficult news: she must return to Brooklyn after a lead surfaces on one of her cases. But the emotional weight doesn’t stop there.
“I guess the distance between Boston and New York is a lot farther than we thought,” she confesses, admitting she’s been praying Danny would return home — but refuses to guilt him for staying.
What follows is the most heartfelt moment of the season so far. Danny asks her to stay for just five more minutes. He puts a record on the turntable, and the two share a slow dance, reaffirming their commitment despite the miles between them.
“We’re gonna make it. I know we are,” Danny tells her.
What This Means for Danny and Baez Going Forward
Fans of the original Blue Bloods universe have been eagerly waiting to see how the romantic storyline unfolds in Boston Blue. Showrunners Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier have confirmed Baez will appear multiple times this season, teasing that the trials of adjusting to a new city — and holding onto what you left behind — will be a major focus.
“The relationship with Baez continues for multiple episodes this season,” Margolis told TVLine.
With Danny determined to make Boston his home for now, and Baez rooted in New York, their long-distance challenges are far from over — but Episode 6 shows they’re fighting for each other.
