The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has secured the arrest of Mrs. Adebola Arowona in Ibadan for allegedly assaulting its staff and vandalising an operational vehicle during a routine inspection.
The arrest is part of IBEDC’s intensified efforts to curb energy theft, vandalism, and attacks on its personnel, as well as to ensure prosecution of offenders across its franchise.
In a statement, the company confirmed that legal proceedings have commenced against Mrs. Arowona.
According to IBEDC, officials visited her residence on Saturday, November 15, 2025, where they reportedly discovered clear evidence of meter tampering and energy theft. The company said Arowona, assisted by a man believed to be her husband, resisted disconnection and allegedly became violent, pushing an official off a ladder and slapping another.
A viral video of the incident also captured the moment she picked up a stone and smashed the windscreen of an IBEDC Hilux vehicle.
The company said Mrs. Arowona has been arrested and charged to court, while the man suspected to be her husband is currently wanted by the police.
IBEDC stressed its resolve to pursue the matter to its “logical conclusion” to serve as a deterrent to others.
In a related development, IBEDC, in collaboration with the Special Investigation and Prosecution Taskforce on Electricity Offences (SIPTEO), has concluded plans to prosecute multiple cases of energy theft across its network. These cases have been scheduled for hearing in courts within the company’s franchise area.
The company expressed serious concern over rising incidents of vandalism, energy theft, and assaults on its staff, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards such offences. It also called for greater community cooperation and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies and stakeholders to apprehend and prosecute offenders while improving service delivery across its coverage area.
