Israeli Airstrikes Kill 24 Palestinians in Gaza as Hamas Calls for US Intervention

Gaza City, Palestine – November 22, 2025: Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, killing at least 24 Palestinians, including children, and wounding 87 others. The attacks mark another violation of the six-week-old US-brokered ceasefire in the conflict-ridden territory.

Witnesses reported that the initial strike targeted a car in northern Gaza City, followed by attacks in central Deir el-Balah and the Nuseirat refugee camp. According to local authorities, many civilians were killed in their homes and shelters.

Details of the Airstrikes

  • Gaza City (Remal neighbourhood): A drone strike killed 11 people and injured 20 others, as reported by al-Shifa Hospital.
  • Deir el-Balah: At least three fatalities occurred when an Israeli strike hit a residential house, with witnesses describing a “powerful explosion.”
  • Nuseirat Refugee Camp: A residential building was hit, causing injuries and destruction in the surrounding streets.

Anas al-Saloul, a local resident, said, “Everyone in the street was covered in debris. There were injuries and deaths. This is not a life we can live. There’s no safe place.”

Ceasefire Violations and Casualties

The Gaza Government Media Office reported that Israel has violated the ceasefire 497 times since it came into effect on October 10. So far, 342 civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, have been killed in these attacks.

“The continued systematic violations of the ceasefire by Israeli authorities constitute a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law,” the office stated.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the strikes, saying they were a response to an attack on Israeli soldiers. The military claimed it eliminated five senior Hamas fighters in the operations.

Hamas Calls for International Intervention

Hamas accused Israel of violating the truce under “fabricated pretexts” and called on mediators, including the US, Egypt, and Qatar, to intervene. The group warned that Israeli forces were pushing westward beyond the agreed boundary lines.

“We call upon the mediators to intervene urgently and exert pressure to immediately halt these violations,” a Hamas spokesperson said.

Izzat al-Risheq, a Hamas political bureau member, emphasized that Israel was “fabricating pretexts to evade the agreement and return to the war of annihilation,” while systematically breaching the ceasefire.

Escalating Violence in the West Bank

Meanwhile, violence in the occupied West Bank has surged. Reports include:

  • Israeli settlers attacking Palestinian farmers southeast of Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills.
  • Israeli soldiers wounding two Palestinians during a raid in Dura, south of Hebron.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported 260 Israeli settler attacks in October—the highest monthly figure since 2006—highlighting a broader pattern of home demolitions, arrests, and forced displacement of Palestinians.

Thameen al-Kheetan of the UN stated, “Permanently displacing the Palestinian population within occupied territory amounts to unlawful transfer, a war crime. The transfer of Israeli civilians into occupied territories also constitutes a war crime.”

Conclusion

The latest airstrikes in Gaza demonstrate the fragility of the ceasefire and the continued humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians. International observers, rights groups, and Hamas are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further civilian casualties and uphold international law.
