Students at Government Girls College, Maiduguri, Borno State, fled their school hostels at night after noticing unusual movements around the campus, fearing abduction.
- A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows students running from the school.
- One student reported that “men in black with face masks” entered the hostels while they were praying in the mosque.
- Students have appealed to state authorities, including the Chief Security Officer, Commissioner of Police, and Commissioner of Education, for urgent intervention and permission to return home safely.
The incident comes amid a rise in attacks targeting schools in northern Nigeria:
- In Niger State, 265 staff and students were abducted from St. Mary’s School, including 239 pupils.
- In Kebbi State, around 25 students were kidnapped from their school.
These events recall the 2014 Chibok girls’ kidnapping, highlighting ongoing security challenges for schools in the region.
Attempts to get comments from Borno State Police were unsuccessful.
