Seme Customs Refutes Misleading Reports on Border Operations

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed online reports misrepresenting its activities along the Seme corridor, describing them as baseless and inconsistent with its operational procedures. The Command urged the public to disregard the publication, stressing it does not reflect realities on the ground.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Suleiman, the NCS noted that since Comptroller Wale Adenuga assumed office in September 2025, enforcement along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor has been significantly strengthened through closer collaboration with the Nigerian Military and sister security agencies. The reactivation of the Joint Border Security Meeting (JBSM) has further reinforced joint anti-smuggling operations.

The statement added that during the ongoing yuletide season, those whose illegal activities have been disrupted may resort to misinformation, but such attempts will not deter the Command from performing its lawful duties.

Key enforcement achievements reported include:

  • Seizure of over 4,000 bags of foreign parboiled rice (about seven trailer loads)
  • Confiscation of five trailer loads of expired flour
  • Recovery of endangered species, including a lion cub and patas monkeys
  • Seizure of over 2,000 parcels of Cannabis Sativa

Revenue collection has also seen a dramatic increase under Adenuga, rising from an average of ₦500–₦600 million monthly to over ₦1.5 billion in September and exceeding ₦2.5 billion in October, reflecting a 300% growth through strengthened enforcement, blocked leakages, and improved trade facilitation.

The Seme Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption, promising to sustain efforts in safeguarding national security, enforcing compliance, and facilitating lawful trade along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor.
