Israel Kills Four Palestinians in Gaza as Ceasefire Violations Continue; Body of Captive Recovered

Gaza City, Palestine – Israeli forces have killed at least four Palestinians and injured several others across Gaza, despite a fragile six-week ceasefire. Meanwhile, a Palestinian armed group announced it had recovered the body of an Israeli captive in central Gaza, highlighting ongoing tensions in the territory.

The fatalities include a Palestinian man killed in a drone strike in Bani Suheila, located in areas beyond the so-called “yellow line” controlled by Israeli forces. Separately, a Palestinian child died in northern Gaza City after ordnances left by Israeli troops exploded, leaving additional children wounded, some critically.

Escalation Across Gaza

Al Jazeera reporter Tareq Abu Azzoum described ongoing Israeli attacks throughout Gaza, including artillery, air raids, and helicopter strikes. Areas affected include Beit Lahiya, Rafah, and the outskirts of Khan Younis, with Israeli forces reportedly targeting zones beyond the yellow line.

Families reported widespread destruction, with eastern neighborhoods systematically damaged. In central Gaza’s Maghazi camp, civil defense teams, supported by police and the Red Cross, recovered eight members of a single family from rubble caused by prior Israeli attacks.

Since the ceasefire began, 582 bodies have been retrieved, while over 9,500 Palestinians remain missing beneath the ruins of bombed districts, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.

Palestinian Captive Recovered

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad, allied with Hamas, announced it recovered the body of an Israeli captive in Nuseirat camp, central Gaza. Under the ceasefire deal, Israel is expected to return Palestinian bodies in exchange for each recovered Israeli captive. Hamas has stated that destruction across Gaza has hampered efforts to locate the remaining bodies.

Impact of Ceasefire and Humanitarian Operations

The Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF), a US-backed entity, announced the end of its operations in the territory, citing ceasefire provisions. UN experts reported that at least 859 Palestinians were killed near GHF distribution points since May 2025, with Israeli forces and foreign contractors often opening fire on civilians seeking aid.

Violence in the West Bank

Across the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces carried out overnight raids, arresting at least 16 Palestinians in multiple locations, including Tulkarem, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Jenin, and Tubas.

The violence escalated on Sunday night when Israeli forces killed 20-year-old law student Baraa Khairi Ali Maali in Deir Jarir after settlers attacked Palestinian homes. Local officials reported that troops opened fire on residents confronting settlers.

Settler violence also continued, with olive trees torched and farmland destroyed in Atara and Birzeit. Since 7 October 2023, at least 1,081 Palestinians, including 223 children, have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces and settlers. Over 10,614 have been wounded, and more than 20,500 arrested.

Israeli Operations in Lebanon

In Lebanon, Hezbollah held a funeral for senior commander Haytham Ali Tabatabai, killed by Israel on Sunday. Officials called his killing a ceasefire violation, accusing Israel of escalating the conflict with US backing. Analysts noted that Hezbollah faces a strategic dilemma: retaliate and risk a massive Israeli assault, or refrain and undermine its deterrence.

Experts warn that Israel’s right-wing government may escalate operations to consolidate domestic political power, while Hezbollah’s logistical routes via Syria have been constrained, limiting its response options.
