Abducted Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, has reportedly died while in captivity, Reporters has learned.
Venerable Achi and his wife, Sarah, were kidnapped from their home in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State, near the Kaduna Refinery, on October 28, 2025. Their abduction was first reported by SaharaReporters the following day.
During their captivity, the kidnappers sent photographs of the couple to their family as proof of life, while demanding a ransom of N600 million. The images reportedly showed the priest and his wife in a distressed state, alongside other captives who appeared malnourished and were tied in chains.
A source told SaharaReporters on Wednesday night that Achi, the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna, had died while being held by his abductors.
In a related security incident in the region, SaharaReporters previously reported that bandits killed two police officers in Southern Kaduna. The attack occurred on a Friday evening inside the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, the headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, according to a local resident.
The death of Venerable Achi underscores the growing threat of kidnapping and banditry in Kaduna State, particularly targeting religious leaders and law enforcement personnel.
