Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has dismissed reports claiming he plans to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling them “fabricated, malicious, and laughable.” The rumours allegedly stemmed from a meeting he held with former PDP National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu in Makurdi.
Governor Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, explained that such meetings are part of Alia’s inclusive leadership style and are meant to foster dialogue with leaders across political and religious divides. Kula emphasized that the Governor remains committed to strengthening the APC in Benue, citing recent efforts that brought notable figures like Prof. David Iornem, Elder David Amo, and Amb. Terhemen Tarzoor into the party.
The CPS described the rumours as a smear campaign aimed at distraction, stressing that Governor Alia is focused on consolidating the party and preparing for the 2027 political cycle, bringing even political opponents into APC to ensure a united front.
Key point: The Governor remains firmly in APC and is actively bolstering the party’s influence across Benue State.
