Inner Wheel Urges Teenagers to Speak Out Against Violence and Abuse

As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Inner Wheel District 911, Nigeria called on teenagers to speak up against violence, sexual abuse, and discrimination. The campaign, which runs from November 25 to December 10, 2025, kicked off at New Era Girls Secondary School, Surulere, with 12 schools and over 600 students in attendance.

Funmi Ogunsi, National Representative and President of Inner Wheel Nigeria, stressed that perpetrators often face little consequence, while victims struggle with stigma. She urged the government to strengthen sanctions and expedite justice, emphasizing that “justice delayed is justice denied.”

The organisation also highlighted the need to sensitise families and institutions about raising boys and girls with mutual respect and dignity, noting that boys too can be victims of abuse. Omolola Fakeye, Chairman of District 911, encouraged teenagers to recognize violence in homes, schools, or among peers, and to say no when confronted with abuse.

The event praised Lagos State’s efforts to curb gender-based violence and emphasized that everyone must act responsibly and uphold the law.
