Senator Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West) has called for frank and honest communication to President Bola Tinubu about Nigeria’s worsening security situation, citing rising crimes, banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on security personnel.
Dickson criticized a recent Senate motion to commend the President and government, describing it as ill-timed and insensitive, given the severity of the crisis. He stressed that the country is “under attack,” with civilians and soldiers suffering, and that political sugarcoating is a disservice to both the nation and the President.
He urged those with access to the President, particularly lawmakers and other stakeholders, to provide truthful insights into the realities on the ground. Dickson emphasized the Senate’s role in oversight, accountability, and policy guidance, noting that trillions allocated to security agencies must be properly monitored.
Highlighting the need for unity and collaboration, Dickson said democracy requires robust discussions, and minority voices in the Senate must be heard without intimidation. He extended condolences to families of fallen soldiers and victims of insecurity and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for transparency and decisive action in addressing the national security crisis.
